Vanadium stimulates glycogen synthesis, which enhances cellular insulin sensitization (cells are able to utilize the insulin better).1
Vanadium seems to sensitize cells to insulin, when the cell is insulin deficient,3
- Stimulates the insulin-stimulated glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4) translocation
- Indicating an enhancement of insulin response on GLUT4 translocation brought about by vanadium treatment
Diabetes is a disease where there is not enough insulin produced by the pancreas. Insulin allows glucose, the energy source of the cells, to enter cells so the cell has enough energy to produce the cellular functions required of it. Vanadyl sulfate helps diabetics by stabilizing the blood sugar levels and decreasing insulin receptor resistance. Simply stated, it makes cells more sensitive to the effects of the insulin that is available.
