This is our comprehensive listing of all the information on our site. It is oriented to educating the animal caretaker. Our goal at WellVet.com is to empower the animal caretaker to take over the primary care for their animal. Western medicine has, for too long, tried to take over the position as primary decision maker and caretaker for our health and for our animal's health. WellVet.com strongly believes that much of what is wrong with Western Veterinary Medical care is based upon this false belief. Only an informed caretaker can make the decisions that are right for both the animal and their person.
WellVet.com believes in marketing products:
- Of the highest quality
- Provide detailed information of the product's contents
- Provide information about what problems the product is most likely to effectively address
We offer products we believe in, but if you do not wish to purchase products from WellVet.com, you will find an abundance of articles that will help you understand how to care for your companion animal and help guide you to products you feel comfortable using.
Medicine and health care should be primarily practiced AT HOME, by those that know themselves and their animals best. Only the healing environment of the home and the love of those around the sick animal can optimize recovery. Although there are times when hospitalization is needed, the majority of sick animals that are hospitalized should actually be treated at home, after a veterinarian has made a diagnosis and carefully instructed the animal's person on how to treat at home.
At the same time effective medical care takes cooperation between:
- The primary care veterinarian
- Various specialists in Traditional Western Medicine
- And a veterinarian that specializes in holistic or complementary medicine and alternative medicine
All the information provided in this guide is cross referenced throughout this site. In the pages for dogs, cats and birds/exotics we try to highlight articles of particular importance. These individual pages are intended to help the caretaker focus on the animals they are most interested in. Essentially all the information on other pages is also found here.
At any time you can also search for a disease, a product or a discussion of a condition by using the search feature found at the top of each page. As you will find, we provide a level of education that is effective for people with different needs. Some want only the basic information; others want a deeper understanding of health care and medicinal products. We also provide information that is likely to be of benefit only to veterinarians (or those equally trained). If you find yourself in a section that is too extensive for your needs, WellVet.com recommends that you return to the Reference Page or go to the dog, cat or bird/exotic page of your choice.
Finally, we only include natural remedies because we assume that your primary care veterinarian or veterinary specialist will prescribe the needed pharmaceuticals and diagnostic testing.
We strongly believe in a cooperative relationship between you, your local traditional Western veterinarian, your local holistic veterinarian and our site. In addition, to get the most information about your animal, we recommend that you consider a phone consult with Dr. McCluggage. Click here to learn about our phone consult service.
