Birds are often
bored in home situations. They simply don't have a "job" like
they would if they were still in the wild (the "job" is called
staying alive and its a 24 hour a day job. No time to be bored if you
live in the wild!).
So, how can we help our birds stay happy in a home situation? First of all, give them plenty of our time: play with them, interact with them, make them feel a part of the entire household by engaging them in all your family activities in the home.
But, you can't always be with your bird, so they need to have toys to play with and to destroy. A parrot, by nature, is a bird that loves to tear things up, chew them up and generally have a great time at it. But toys costs lots of money, so some people tend to buy toys that are indestructible, toys that just hang in the bird's cage or playpen unused.
The solution? Learn how to make and find fun toys that are just laying around your house. We all have a wealth of things we can easily make and give to our birds so they can have fun when we are not around.
One of our favorite books addresses this issue, teaching you how to easily and inexpensively provide a wealth of toys for your bird's entertainment. The book is called:
Parrot-Toys & Play Areas (A Practical Parrot Guide on How To Put Some Fun Into Your Parrot's Life).
By:

- Crow Fire Publishing
This book is filled with wonderful ideas on how to make simple, cheap, fun toys for your companion bird(s).
One word of caution: you won't find this book in any pet store, since pet toys make up the bulk of the profit margin a pet store generates! This book has so many great ideas, you may never go into a pet store to buy a toy again!
