IP-6 is also called inositol hexaphosphate. Inositol hexaphosphate (IP6) is a chemical found in beans, brown rice, corn, sesame seeds, wheat bran, and other high-fiber foods. It is converted into compounds in the body that are used by cells to relay outside messages to the cell nucleus. IP6 also aids the body in its use, or metabolism, of calcium and other minerals.
IP6's role in prostate, colon, breast, lung, and liver health may be enhanced when combined with inositol.
Animal and lab research has found that IP6 may be effective in lowering tumor incidence and slowing tumor growth. However, studies of IP6 have not yet been done in people.
IP6 is one form of inositol. Inositol is a kind of sugar formed by 6 carbon atoms, 6 oxygen atoms, and 12 hydrogen atoms. This combination of atoms can also form glucose, but the atoms are arranged differently in these 2 sugars.
Studies in animals have found that supplementing the animals' diets with IP6 may help prevent tumors from forming in the prostate, lung, colon, skin, and other areas.
Recent research is showing that IP-6 might help:
- Fight cancer, possibly even shrinking tumor cells in some situations
- Help control diabetes and help prevent it
- Boost the immune system
- Prevent kidney and bladder stones
- Prevent kidney and bladder stones
- Have a cardiovascular protective effect
One general theory behind its anticancer properties is:
- Since all cancers, irrespective of their type and origin, have a common defect of uncontrolled
cell proliferation, and,
- since IP-3 is a key regulator of cell growth, and IP-6 & Inositol yield IP-3
- therefore, IP-6 & Inositol should be effective against many different types of cancers across all
IP-6 has been reported to have in vivo and in vitro anti- cancer activity (lab testing and animal studies) against numerous tumors, such as colon cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, liver cancer, chronic myeloid leukemia, pancreatic cancer, and rhabdomyosarcomas.
In addition to reducing cell proliferation, IP6 increases differentiation of malignant cells, often resulting in a reversion to normal phenotype. Orally administered IP6 is rapidly taken into the cells and dephosphorylated to lower-phosphate inositol phosphates, which further interfere with signal transduction pathways and cell cycle arrest.
IP-6's enhanced immunity and antioxidant properties can also contribute to tumor cell destruction. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying this anticancer action are not fully understood. Because it is abundantly present in regular diet, efficiently absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, and safe, IP6 holds great promise in strategies for the prevention and treatment of cancer. IP6 enhances the anticancer effect of conventional chemotherapy, controls cancer metastases, and improves the quality of life.
IP-6 has anti-HIV activity in people and thus might help with cats with Felv and FIV infections.
In studies on cells, IP6 has improved the efficacy of chemotherapy and hormone therapy drugs, as well as inhibiting the spread of cancer cells to other parts of the body. In laboratory studies with animals, the addition of IP6 to their diets seemed to prevent tumors in the prostate, skin, colon and lungs. Inositol hexaphosphate has also been researched for effectiveness in other disorders such as autism and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Some web sites seem to promote IP-6 as a miracle, stand-alone cure for very serious diseases. IP-6 should NOT be the only therapy for the following problems. These are difficult diseases that require a multi-discipline approach, including the use of conventional Western Medicine and other Complementary Therapies in combination.
IP-6, or inositol hexaphosphate, might be helpful in:
- Breast Cancer
- Liver Cancer
- Prostate Cancer
- In cats, FeLV prevention
- In Cats, FIV prevention and treatment
- Cats with cardiomyopathy
- Dogs with heart valve defects, heart murmurs, mitral valve insufficiency, etc
- Dogs with Bronchitis
- ITP, bleeding problems, immune thrombocytopenia, clotting problems
- Separation Anxiety, fear, phobias
- Obsessive-compulsive disorders
- Chemotherapy adjunct: IP6 plus inositol enhances the anticancer effect of conventional chemotherapy, controls cancer metastases, and improves the quality of life
