Magnesium Citramate
General:
Magnesium is an essential trace mineral required for a large variety of the body's metabolic pathways. Magnesium is present in all cells of the body and is involved in over 300 enzymatic processes, including energy production.
The diet your companion animal is on can easily be deficient in magnesium. The disease will commonly increase the amount of magnesium the body needs. With many diseases, adding magnesium will help your companion animal become well again.
But, when taken orally, as a supplement, it is poorly absorbed. Magnesium Citramate provides magnesium bound to citrate-malate for superior absorption. Magnesium in the citrate form is probably the most readily-absorbed version.
Rationale:
Your companion animal's diet can easily be deficient in enough magnesium. The disease will commonly increase the amount of magnesium the body needs. With many diseases, adding magnesium will help your companion animal become well again.

Magnesium is required in glycosyl transferase, a process required for cartilage formation. It is common to add magnesium to arthritis formulations to improve cartilage tissue.
Magnesium in the urine decreases the formation of calcium oxalate crystals. Dogs and cats that have developed calcium oxalate stones in the past are likely to form them again. These animals should be on special diets (see Calcium Oxalate Stone Diet), and a magnesium supplement is probably a good idea.
Magnesium is essential for maintaining normal bone density, normal cardiac rhythmicity, normal pulmonary function, and normal blood glucose regulation.
